WinXP doesn't recognise my video card, after drivers removed.

Tried to download the 9.8 drivers from ATI, I always get the Driver Only for past several years, about 19meg. Grabbed the file, turned out to be a Legacy Integrated (freaking great), tried to uninstall, it left some crap on there RDARemote so looking through the Add Remove was only ATI Uninstall. Ran it, it uninstalled all ATI files and now system doesn't even recognize the video card. Oh, joy.

Is there any download that I can grab to add the Base ATI, Info files/drivers so I can actually install video drivers again? Please don't say I will have to reinstall XP, maybe worst case I could install SP3 or something?

Thanks for any help. :)

Try physically uninstalling the card, rebooting, shutting down, reinstalling, and turning back on again. Windows should detect it.

Does it not let you install the ATi drivers?

Not sure that will work, I think the uninstall program removed a ATI info file or something, so it won't recognize any ATI card, atm. I Uninstalled it via the Hardware Manager, then rebooted, I can't even pick to change the in the Driver window. Isn't there some System Info files, so windows can auto detect hardware, each manufacturer maybe has one?

No, otherwise I would just install some drivers, it can't tell there is a ATI card installed. to install the ATI drivers.

I see it now, have been checking the .inf files in the XP_inf folders that come with all Catalyst drivers, it seems 9.3 was the last version to cover older cards. All the inf files from 9.4 to present contain HD version cards only.

So until someone figures out how to hack the inf files, to test the newer versions of drivers to see if they really do work with older cards, we are stuck with 9.3.

Oh, well amd made ATI suck.

Thanks for the help. :)

Perhaps you removed your motherboard chipset drivers with the ATI uninstall? You might want to reinstall them first before installing the graphics card drivers.

tcsenter was that link for me to use,? Thanks, unless I misunderstand your reason for the link, I mentioned 9.4 + don't support any ATI cards but HD line.

taltamir have you looked at the actual files that come in the Integrated Driver, I couldn't find an actual Video Driver in there, maybe you have had better luck or I downloaded a bad file?

rbV5, I thought about that too, once I discovered only HD ATI cards are supported in 9.4+ I realized why it kept saying I didn't have the correct Info or Hardware.

Once I reinstalled 9.3, everything was back to normal, then I reinstalled the WMD file and DirectX, just to be safe.

Thanks. :)

Yes, the link was for you. No, you did not actually read it carefully enough. That link is to the LEGACY Catalyst driver which supports DX9 parts.
