WinXP dials my dial up connection few minutes for no reason

For some reason Windows XP likes to dial my phone number for my dial up connection every few minutes or so. I've gone through every setting in windows and my dial up connection and have disabled every item that I can think of that would try to dial out. I've even disabled all my programs that startup when windows loads but the problem is still.

Can't figure this out. Any suggestions.

Just a guess, but is your email program trying to access the internet? Have you activated WinXP yet?

I've activated windows already and have disabled anything and everything I can think of or find. It just dials my connections phone number and quits at that. It doesn't even bring up the internet explorer windows. I do however use aol, but I have to go through a local isp to use aol.

I can relate - BUT - my computer is running W'98 and started just automatically dialing up my ISP all the time - VERY irritating - FINALLY I just had to uncheck the Auto-Connect in the small Dial Up screen that pops up, so now it may pop up but it can't dial w/o me telling it to.
I don't know, but I was guessing it might have something to do with that feature that was new in '98 where it was supposed to configure your HD with most used items located 1st on the HD - - - maybe because I use the Internet so much - '98 "got carried away" and just started auto dialing everytime I booted up????
BUT - I don't like to hear this because I will soon be using W'XP too - and HATE to think I may have that same stupid annoyance!

Happy HEW Year!
