WinXP: DHCP Client - Error during boot..

I get an error message during the boot process -- it doesn't say much at all, but it happens everytime.. This just started happening after a shutdown process that rebooted -- something that had never happened before.. Thing is, even with this error, my system runs perfectly thereafter.. However, I took the time to figure out what is causing it, I just don't know how to fix it and I don't want to "mess around".. Basically, it has to do with the "DHCP Client" in my services.. If I disable that alone, I don't get the error message.. What is also interesting is that WinXP always recovers from the error, but it'll still report the error on the next boot.. One more thing, the DHCP client process IS running -- like I said, it seems to recover..

I'd like to know if there is a way to get rid of the annoying message -- please don't post the obvious like "disable it if you don't need it".. I don't want a bandaid solution.. 🙂

Thanks.

There is no actual full error message -- I wish.. It basically says an error has occured and that it has been corrected.. If I go into the details, there are hex values, but nothing in English as a description.. In other words, there is nothing I can tell you more about the "error messages" except to say that it DOES have to do with the DHCP client..

As for am I using the DHCP client, well I do have a high speed connection and DHCP is enabled for this connection, ie.. my IP is automatically and dynamically assigned to me by my ISP.. Now, what I'm unsure of is where the DHCP client fits into this picture.. I can only assume I am a DHCP client and my ISP runs a DHCP server, so the request will be made..

What truly bothers me is that my PC still functions normally.. I can't seem to get rid of the error message -- you'd think if it had corrected the situation that the problem should be resolved on the next boot.. My assumption is that there is some corrupted temporary file that is "telling" it that it has a problem when in fact it doesn't..

P.S. I still love WinXP.. 🙂
