WinXP/Creative SB and the popping sound

So I have a Sound Blaster and WinXP and it tends to make popping sounds periodically (between ever 5 seconds and a few minutes). I recall seeing a patch/update for it from Microsoft but either I already have it and it doesn't work, or I'm too stupid to find it twice.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Funny how you think of things after you finally ask a question.

It occurred to me that it might just be the speakers. I turned off one set to see if it fixes it.

If it is the speakers, is there much that I can do?

Nope, you'll need to replace the speakers.
