I have XP build 2600, and I have tired NERO 5.5, CDRWIN 4a-e?, Rixio 5, CLONECD.. and I have found that only NERO works , and that is 9 times out of ten without a problem. after I installed CDRWIN or CLONECD my system became unstable, and when those apps wrote a CD, there ended up being nothing on it. dont know why, but I ended up reinstalling XP, and only installing NERO.

<< man, that sux... have u tried installing the latest aspi layer? >>

Adaptec states on their website not to install their ASPI layer with Windows 2000 (which is virtually identical to XP). From their website: Do NOT install ASPI32.EXE with Windows 2000, Windows ME, Easy CD Creator 4.x, or with Windows Media Player 7.0. If you have one of these applications (or operating systems), you will be using a different aspi layer that will conflict with the one provided in this file.

from what I read on the RIXIO web site, Easy CD Creator 5, is compatable with window2000. "Easy CD Creator supports Windows 2000 Professional only from version 4.02, and DirectCD only from version 3.01, so please do not contact our technical support for help with earlier versions under this operating system. Take Two is supported from version 1.03.". there are 2 or 3 updates to the various programs, availalbe on their web site. but it is supposted to be ok to install. what really gets me is that WinXP (build 2600) comes with basic cd writing software built in, and it is made by RIXIO. but I have had nothing but problems running it on XP. so now I don't have it installed anymore.

Some software won't work without the ASPI layer, like DiscJuggler I think. In any case, you can get the ASPI layer here: ForceASPI

For CDRWin, d/l the "winaspi32.dll" from the Nero site, put it in the CDRWin folder, it works fine. I haven't tried DJ, but Nero, CDRWin and Clone CD work fine with XP.

Ginfest: the winaspi32.dll from nero's website is a version older than the one that came with the latest nero.

which version of nero r u running?

did u have to make set anything in cdrwin to get it to use the winaspi32.dll if u put it in cdrwin's directory?

thanx for the tip :)

Ginfest: btw, the aspi driver that nero uses is WNASPI32.DLL, not WINASPI32.DLL. if i copied wnaspi32.dll to the cdrwin directory, will cdrwin recognise the file?
