hI, ive encountered a small problem, hopefully someone out there can help me out.
Let me start by explaining my network setup that I currently have running at my house.
1) I got a linux redhat server running samba, it has several directories that are able to be accessed via the windows Network neighborhood menus.
2) I got a winXP prof. system that can access the network drive(linux samba server) but everytime I reboot I have to retype in the login user name and password to access it.
My question is if there is a way to make it so that I dont have to type in the login/password everytime to access the network drive on my linux server running samba.
Wierd thing is my other system on the same network thats running windows 2000 can access the network drive fine without prompting me for login/password ( i just typed it in the first time and dont need to worry about it anymore)
Ive traced it down to the fact that Windows XP does not let you make a user name that is the same name as the computer name. Under windows 2000, you could have a user name that would be the same as the computer name for example COMP1/Comp1. however for the XP system i have it set as Comp2/computer2.
I tried mapping the network drive to the My Computers menu and make it reconnect on login but when i reboot it doesnt reconnect at all. If anyone can help me out on this i'd really appreciate it. Thanks
