WinXP: Burning CD's keeps popping the disk tray out?!

I'm burning the same files onto multiple CDs. I burn one disk, the wizard pops back up and asks if I want to burn these files to another CD. I click the little Yes checkbox, put in a blank CD, and click next.

Every single time, the wizard pops back with this error message and ejects the disk. I close the drive again (still with the same new blank CD in the drive) and it automatically continues like it should.

Here's the error:

There is no disc in the drive.
Please insert a writable CD into drive D:\

😕

It's happening on both my desktop and laptop. What am I doing wrong?

Maybe the program isnt allowing the disk to spin up in time to recognize its there. That happens to me sometimes. Maybe its the media, have you tried different brands?

Genrally though I would ignore it as long as it burns the disks OK.

I've gone through three different brands now. I even waited 5 minutes to click the next button on the screen that asks if I want to burn these files to another CD. 😕

This only happens with the built in XP burning program? Tried any other burning proggies? All windows updates have been installed? Have you checked to see if the burners have any firmware updates?

I don't have any other burning programs to use, no. All updates are installed, but I haven't checked for firmware updates on the drives themselves. The notebook is a Panasonic Toughbook and they don't release firmware updates on their drives.
