WinXP Bootup Problem

Ok. THe time is now 8:37PM. The last time I turned on my computer at 12 noon, everything worked fine. All I did at the last time I turned it on was sign up for an ebay sellers account.

Now, when I turn on my computer, the OS will show the WinXP bootup screen (with that thing on the bottom scrollling) and that's it. It just keeps showing that screen, with the thing scrolling, looking like it's making progress. I left it like that for 15 minutes with no progress made.

I cannot boot in safe mode. It doesn't load past this one file. I forget which one.

ANy ideas?

I have not installed any new software recently nor have I installed any new hardware.

System Specs:

Windows XP Professional
60GB 7200RPM Maxtor HD
12x Pine DVD Drive
16x 32x 8x Samsung CD-RW
Floppy Drivge
256MB DDR Ram
SB Live 5.1
Network card
ATI TV Wonder
1.4 GHZ AMD T-Bird
MSI K7T266 Pro motherboard

Thanks for any help.

You may want to write down which file it's stopping at, and then search Microsoft Support for that file. That helped me once, when XP wouldn't boot (roxio's easy cd creator 5's directCD had screwed things up, probably not the same problem you have.)
