WinXP boot slowdown

For some reason, every single time i boot my computer, right before the WindowsXP logo comes up, i get about 3-5 seconds of a really dark (read: dim) logo. It hangs there for that small time lapse and then boots normally. Everything works fine everywhere else so i don't understand where the hang comes from. i just built the computer yesterday and i'm still trying it out.

Thanks

What are the specs? I've built a few computers that did that too. I never figured out what causes it. It doesn't seem to hurt anything.

MY SYSTEM:

ATHLON XP 1800+
EPOX 8K5A2+
512MB SAMSUNG PC2700
ATI A-I-W 8500 128MB RADEON
THERMALTAKE VOLCANO 7 CPU FAN
6 CASE FANS
LIGHT MODS GALORE

**Also, for some reason SiSoft Sandra detects my mobo as KT266 instead of KT333. I wonder if i need to get a newer version of it. Does anyone know which version begins to incorporate the 333

Try BootVis it has a tracer so you can see what programs are taking longer to load ,it can also make your PC bootup faster.

I was having the exact problem you were having just last week....It turned out it was a driver issue. My CDRW was causing the problems. I had to take it off the Primary IDE channel and put it on its own channel on a Promise ATA card. Now I have very quick boot ups...
This thought also came to my mind...Have you tried loading up the newest VIA 4in1 drivers?

YOu are correct. I'm pretty sure that it's my CDRW...had some problems with it recently. (IOMAGIC) but i figure its no real harm whatsoever so i'm not going to fuss too much about it. Mind you, i will try to fight and get quicker boots. Thanks for the info.

Also, thanx MEM for the BootVis tool. It was great to analyze where it was lagging, but i already knew where. It only gives me time, not what actual process is holding it up. *unless i'm missing something.

Anyway, thanks to both of you. I'll try installing the newer 4-in-1.
