WinXP and slow surfing

Is anyone getting really high pings after installing WInXP?

I did a clean install of WinXP on an Abit KT7 m/board....my net connection isn't as fast as it was when I was dual booting w/98se and Win2k Pro. Pages takes a little bit longer to come up, ping time is a now extremely high 200-300ms...b4 it was under 80ms, downloading stuff of the web..like CuteFTP, mIRC, etc...it is just crawling....

If I hook up my sis' WIn98se box...and ping Yahoo...it's coming back at 60ms....what gives...?

I've tried disabling the firewall...cookies...no luck...

BTW..I'm connected via cable modem....I usually get between 3-4mBit down.....

hmmmmmmmmmmm good thing i didn't go ahead and installed xp....
(was thinking about installing it a few minutes ago)

xp is fine with internet connections, i am running a triple boot OS here, Linux Mandrake 8.1, win98se, and XP Pro. all OS's work perfectly with my DSL and are all the same with ping times.

you will have to blame something else.
