I ahve an iomega 100mg zip drive and for some reaosn winxp pro will not recognize it. When i run red hat 8.0 the drive is there i ahve mounted it saved files to it etc. yet for some reason xp doesnt think it exsits. any reason for this?

thanx

I can't say exactly why but I do know XP has native support for it. Mine was recognized right away.

Check your device manager and see if the zip drive has any errors (yellow exclamation point).

http://groups.google.com has always been an incredible help to me when solving these types of problems.

My ZIP Drive was detected by XP with no problem too. It does like to show up as a "Floppy B" sometimes though.

it is IDE, and where does one find the device maneger? if i try to install new hbardware it doesnt notice the drive at all.

Glitchny: I ran into the same problem when Win Xp was introduced last year. I believe Iomega and Microsoft didn't get together and include all drivers for zip drive. I know the 250 meg zip drive doesn't have the problem. My zip 100 was detected, but when I was trying to use the drive a week later, it wiped out 2 of my full zip disks. Go to Iomega and download the latest zip 100 ide (atapi) drivers. Install, and reboot your computer. You will have any more problems.

Actually I think you have to install the zip software with winxp. I couldn't get mine to work and Iomega's site said to install the software.

Wow, you know how to mount a drive in linux but you don't know where device manager is in windows? It's listed in the windows help file....umm...anyway, it's prolly listed as an unknown device.

yeah i found the device manager (i imediatly realized where it was after i hit the reply button) . the zip drive inst listed anywhere. i installed the iomega software the first time but the driver i dowloaded made me uninstall it. ill try reinstalling the software and seeing what happens.

thanx
