Setup:

Asus A7V with integrated Promise ATA100 Controller
IBM 75GXP ATA100 HDD on Promise Controller as master
Toshiba 48x cdrom as Secondary Master
Plextor 12x Burner as Primary Master

I put the Winxp cd in the tosh48x (e drive) and boot from it, format to ntfs and begin the install process copying files from the cd to the hdd. It goes thru a little bit of setup and then asks me to insert the winxp cd to find i386, but for some reason it will not longer recognize my tosh48x (e drive) and i have to take the cd out and put it into the plextor (d drive). Installation continues but I end up with the following problems:

1. Boot time is VERY slow and after it says "Starting Winxp Pro" it sits at a black screen and idles for a long while until it finally starts up.
2. Windows will not recognize my Toshiba 48x (e drive). It will only recognize the plextor (d drive)

I've tried updating with the latest Via 4-in-1's and I have tried pressing F6 during startup to use updated Promise drivers, but it says that they're older than the ones winxp has. I've reformatted and tried the install twice now, both with the same results.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Dont worry about the long start up times. I have the same mb and winME and after it has displayed the winME logo for the first time, it stays idle, not doing anything for a few mins. th problem is with the bios on the promice100 controler. the only known fix os to put your hd +cd rom on the 66 controller and completely diable the promice100 controller.

As for the cd problem? it happens to me when installing a new os form a boot up or in dos mode. never in exporer though. is your 2nd cdrom a scsi? if it is then thats why cos on mine it wont see my ide dvd until i'm in windows. just the scsi cdr which is as slow as f*#k (2 speed). the boot up drivers see your scsi drives first an assumes that its the only cd rom and only shows that one.:D
