I?m running WinXP Pro and an All-In Wonder Radeon, using the default XP drives for both my vid card AND in terms of the VIA 4-in-1?s

I was wondering if anyone had any comments about how TV Tuner and Vid Capture functions work under XP, using the latest Multimedia Centre, v7.2 ?

I know it?s only been out for a couple days now, but I was hoping to get some comments from the early adopters out there.

Thanks all.

I switched over to MMC 7.2 about a week ago, IIRC I'm using the last
official ATI driver release for XP. I haven't had much time to really
push the system yet.

So far capturing with the MMC is as good, if not better than it was under
Windows98SE. TV quality seems as good in general, and the default
capture settings seem to work well. I notice the bitrate on the
VCD default seems too low (1.05Kbps instead of 1.50Kbps) but the quality
was good enough for casual viewing.

Just on a whim when I was leaving for work one day, I decided to try
and capture a whole 8 hour VHS tape on the VCD setting, to my NTFS partition.
I got home early and found it still chugging away 7 hours later.
I stopped it there because I was well past the part I wanted to record.
The file size only came out to a little over 5 Gig, I say only becuase
that is what I usually get from only 2 hours of high quality capture.
The visual quality is pretty good (VHS quality), and the sound seems
to have stayed in sync thru the entire file.
The only problem I have is the sound gets thrown off if I try to convert
too large a chunk of the file. I think I need to tweak my memory or
something. (I'm upgrading that tonite, which may help some).

On a custom capture of 352x480 Non-interlaced, converted to AVI at 352x240
I got a saved file with much better quality than I was expecting.
The files are still a bit big, and I have to learn how to better set up
encoding in DivX to a lower bitrate, but I favor quality over size anyway.
So I am happy with the results I'm seeing now.

I have not tried TV-Out with this setup yet. Will try that soon and get
back to you.
