winxp add old max hd for old games how to setup to start up old hard drive

Hi

have a computer one year old win xp 1.9 512 ram cdrom dvd geoforge 3 sb live system.
i couldn't get old games to play
i took old maxtor hd i bought 1998 and added to new computer
new computer recognizes the driver as drive f.
I want to play old dos games on this old drive.
but...how do i get it to work?
i went into bios f10 but don't see any area that would say
to change the boot to the new F drive.

can you please help me?
and can I do this?

also win 98 drivers i download for all hardware want to open up into the C:\ cab folder. I have to stop it before it goes there.
Winzip is automatically opening up the d/l file and trying to put the files in the C;\ drive but I want them to go into the F drive.

Does the old hard drive have an operating system on it? If it does you can go to system properties->advanced->startup and recovery settings. Once there you should be able to mess with the boot loader.

Basically you want to add a line that looks something like this under [operating systems]:
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(1)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows 98se" /fastdetect

Here is a nice site explaining what multi,disk,etc stand for.

Once you are booted into 98 you can start downloading your 9x drivers and loading them.

I thought something was wrong with the second HD so I formatted it. There is nothing on it.

You said to go to system properties.

Do I put it after or before Win XP

Now that I have nothing on the second HD...I can't seem to load anything to it.

What do I do now???
