WinXP - access other PC HDD from Run command

One of the network admins where I used to work did this all the time and I never figured out how to.....

basically you type in something like the {machine name}/$c or whatever drive letter you want...and so long as you have a login/password you get to see that PC's drive from your current pc.

anyone tell me how to et this to work or point me to a tutorial?
 
very easy, all Winnt, Win200, WinXP have a default share using the hidden "$" sharing.

Assuming you are CompA accessing a HD on CompB.

\\CompB\c$ = C partition
\\CompB\d$ = D partition
