My new rig will have 4GB of mem, and debating or wondering if its worth just dealing w/ the "3gb wall" with 32bit XP or to mess w/ 64bit (and its issues).

This rig is used for gaming 90% of the time.

My biggest concern from what I've read or heard in the past is, driver updates (or lack there of) and compatibility and bugginess issues.

That maybe the 64b version doesn't get as many updates or refinements or attention??

That 64b is ultimately as a whole "slower" even if it does actually take advantage of that full 4 GB of memory..

That games (nor apps) really fully take advantage of the 64b architecture at this point?

Is it worth my time to get full use of my memory (extra 1 GB)?

Am I going to really see gains, mainly in frames per second..??

And you won't even get me to touch or think Vista....for quite a while yet....so thats not an option.

Thanks for any input!

Asus P5Q Pro
C2D 3GHz E8400 (will get some OC love)
4GB (2x 2GB) DDR2 1000

The rest of the specs are in my sig (minus current cpu/mobo/mem obviously).

Stay away from XP64. It was/is a colossal waste of time. There is very little driver support for it because everyone has now concentrated their efforts on Vista. Many programs also have problems with it.

Just my 2 cents.

Since you are mostly gaming, I wouldn't bother. I use it on my workstation that I like to game on too sometimes cause it is a beast but it does has problems with games sometimes that I don't get in XP32. So if you are just wanting to do it for the extra gig, don't. Some programs just wont even install on it either which can be annoying.
