There is a build of Win64 for Hammer, but it's not worth it unless you happen to need >3G per process address space or >64G physical memory.

Microsoft will have a version of Windows avaliable for x86-64 when it comes out. I'm not sure if you can get it yet though.

You guys are awsome. Now if I can only find some info on the 64-bit linux build. I think I might want to run that instead of windows on a 64-bit system. Any opinions would be cool.
Thanks-

Why wait for Hammer? Just buy a cheap Alpha now, you can find a decent 600Mhz one for like $500 or so.

Compaq Part Number SN-B3AAA-P1 Special Price $399
Pricing updated OCtober 17 3:19pm 2001
433Mhz CPU, 0MB Cache 21164 EV56 at 433Mhz
1.44Mb Floppy + IDE CDROM 10/100 Ethernet On Board,

The PWS line has a regular IDE controller on board and a 10/100 NIC, 64-bit PCI and 32-bit PCI slots, I think even 2 ISA slots. All the PWS should run NT and Linux fine, if you want to run Tru64 or OpenVMS you have to make sure you use a SCSI controller that's supported is used (QLogics are good) because I don't think either support IDE.

I got lucky and got a PWS600au for $600, I lost the eBay auction I bid on but the owner emailed me and asked me if I wanted a better one he had also for sale =)

Also remember that NT on Alpha is only 32-bit, so you need Linux, FreeBSD, VMS, Tru64, etc to actually have a 64-bit OS.
