wintv usb and xp

Has anybody managed to get the Hauppauge wintv usb working with windows xp pro? Particularly with a via chipset? It worked fine under 98 either thru the hub or straight to the computer. XP is not agreeing with it to the point where it is locking up my system with the wintv2000 program and anything that tries to use my webcam (it seems to want to initialize on the wintv rather than the webcam) until I unplug the thing or reboot the system. It is hanging on the splash screen.
