WinTV & SSD drive

A few yrs back I jumped on the SSD bandwagon with a VertexLE 100g. I had a TV tuner card installed on the rig and then one day the SSD drive suddenly crashed/died. From that I became suspicious if the tuner card had anything to do with it like maybe writing too much to the drive or doing something that put excess stress on the Vertex SSD. Granted they were vulnerable to die more than the next but what raises an eye brow is that my second Vertex LE 100g is still going strong till this day.. and they were bought around the same time of each other so I am a little gun shy on re-doing this again. Can anyone share and shed some light on anything that they might have heard, or know, if something like this is connected.. Thanks

🙂

Recording TV to an SSD should not contribute to an early demise unless you are capturing 24/7 to a nearly full drive. Write amplification is what really kills you, and large sequential writes are the easiest for the controller to deal with in terms of keeping the amplification low. Whether or not you need an SSD to capture HDTV streams is another matter entirely.
