what kind of vid card is needed to watch and possibly record hd programs with the use of a wintv-hvr 1600 by hauppauge? I know the bare min specs of 64meg and dx 9 but anyone have any other experiences with this card?

Check my rig #2 spec.
It runs perfectly fine.
Have not yet done any dvr of hd programs just yet but plan on taping some NFL games this Sunday.

it doesn't matter what card you have to record. it's all hardware encoding on the card.

but to watch, an 8600GTS is good b/c it has hardware-acceleration i believe. that is, if you're not going to do any hard-core gaming.

A 6600gt or similar will also provide hardware acceleration for playback. You need to get the HD Purevideo decoder from the nVidia site for a slight fee. I believe that this is different from the SD purevideo decoder. Then you're good to go.
