Don't know if I should have posted this Thread Here or There - LOL
I have been using TV Capture Cards since Win95B so I've a fair bit of experience with them.
Here a rather puzzling issue I have with my Haupauge 1250 WinTV PCIe Card installed in an ASUS P8Z68V-Pro GEN3 MB/Samsung 840 Pro 256, OS is Win7 SP1 [64]. ATV2000 and VirtualDub are the best Capture Apps for the ATi Tv-Wonder.
Every now and then I get a Hardware BSOD on StartUp - Perhaps a month between - Definite Hardware Vs Driver Issue. After Rebooting clean into Win7 the WinTV App will not open.
What is peculiar is that Device Manager reports the Hauppauge WinTV Device working properly but the WinTV app will not open.
Over-Writing the Registry with a good BackUp does not Help.
Possible Cause
I suspect that the Samsung 840 Pro TRIM function is relocating a SSD address of Specific Data with in the WinTV App-Driver that must retain the original SSD Address in order for the OS to see the MB's Tuner IRQ Address and load the Hauppauge 1250 Card Driver properly - specifically the Tuner: for instance, you can NOT change the location of the old ATi Tv Wonder PCI Card to another slot without UN-Installing and RE-Installing the Drivers. In this case I'm not moving the card to another PCIe Slot.
FIX's:
1/ Over-Write the SSD with a System GHOST.GHO BackUp Image with a known functional WinTV Application - This Works as GHOST retains NTFS Table Addressing where Data is stored.
2/ Un-Install the Haupauge WinTV Driver. Shut Down and Remove the Card. ReBoot and Run a Driver Cleaner. Shut Down. Re-Install the card and upon ReBoot Re-Install the Driver. This may re-establish a connection between the WinTV Driver and the PCIe I/O Port. (NOTE: Haven't tried the 2nd FIX-YET but I'm sure if it did it would only be temporary until TRIM re-addressed the Driver Data and broke the connection to the MB's I/O IRQ Address.
Do you think SSD TRIM is causing this issue?
I have removed the card and cleaned the fingers several times and ensured it is seated properly.
Believe it or not but the Old BT 878 ATi Tv Wonder PCI with Stereo works great in Win7 32 Bit [86] using WinXP 32 Bit WDM Dvrs but not in Win7 [64] as there are no 64 Bit WDM BT Dvrs for it.
