Winter weather to be loads of fun, and snow.

Thankfully, nobody has any clue what will really happen. But I do get a sense that we're in for a streak of colder winters, more like the ones I remember from my childhood (which may have only seemed worse because I was so inexperienced at being cold).

Will be hitting 19 degrees tonight.

That should be fun for everyone getting off from the bars and clubs. I feel sorry for the IHOP employees especially.

Also mom.
She'll be out the door at 6AM. Probably gonna freeze her toes off.

Winter is supposed to start off not overly cold, but the first few snows be rather pretty and cheerful and all that.

This year winter decided to start early, with a really cold and snowy slap in the face. None too thrilled about that.

Suck it up and put on a coat. :colbert:

It is pretty frikken cold though, single digits this morning, but long underwear under jeans handles it nicely.

Winter is on time for the first time in a while. Think people just forgot what it used to be like. In past decade or so winter has started and ended late. I finally decided I'm buying a snow blower this year. It will actually be worthwhile. Already got close to 2 feet. Nothing compared to buffalo though. I can't even begin to imagine where you put all that snow. Melt it all into steam? Lol. We used to get 6 + feet here too but that was over 8 months not a few days.

They're zoned pretty well for it. It took a storm like the one I linked to get a class cancelled for weather ONCE...the campus got 18-20" or so (my guess without a ruler).

I always used to laugh in November when the forecast had all of America in blue/purple/white tones and Florida was orange/yellow. We'd be battling 32F and Florida was 72F.

Not this year! Suck it Florida!

I welcome the cold as long as it means we get some decent snow in the mountains a few hours from here. The snowboarding has been crap the last 3 years. It'd be nice to have a few good weeks of solid snow making and storms to work on the base and offer me more than a 1 shot opportunity to get up there.

I just moved to Central Kentucky from Central IL.

Winter in IL: -20F...maybe we'll cancel school because the furnaces can't keep up. And snow wise, it really needs to be a decent amount of snow...8"+ and drifting for the buses on rural routes to cancel.

I'm now in a city of 400,000 people. Monday there was snow falling...DELAY EVERYTHING!!!!

Seriously. We had 2 hour delays Monday and Tuesday because it snowed. I'm talking literally 1/4" of inch...if that. Delayed.

Sweet baby jeebus....I guess they cancelled 14 days of school last year on like 10" of total accumulation for the winter.

Last year here in Houston, we cancelled two days of school because of rain and cold. Yes, there was some icing, but it wasn't all that bad.

I'm totally ready for a winter with no snow. It got way too cold too fast this year. I like when we have a very slow progression to cold temps.

Already broke a record low in Topeka, Lawrence, and Kc this year. It hit 7 degrees earlier this week.

Should get up to upper 30's this weekend though so I can venture back into the garage.

But, another front is supposed to move through and cool things back off for Thanksgiving. So, the warm temperatures are only a brief reprieve.

Not for my neck of the woods. Thanksgiving and Black Friday should have highs in the upper 30s still.

I have to give kudos to Buffalo for handling this pretty well. You don't really hear much complaining, nobody's cars are spontaneously catching on fire and I don't even know if there's been huge accidents, seems to mostly be people getting stuck. There's only been a few deaths and my guess is that most are indirectly related and simply because help could not get on time. This is actually a significant amount of snow worthy of calling it an emergency. Even here in the north I don't think we've ever seen that much snow in such a short time. We tend to get maybe a foot or two at a time and while the total accumulated snow can reach 6+ feet it happens slow enough that it can be taken care of. Heck we have not seen 6 feet of snow in many years here. I have a feeling we might see it this year though. Already at close to two feet. I should make a snow stick and put it in the yard. :p
