Was getting tired of my summer tires in the winter. Thought I could pull it off but getting stuck in my parking lot 3 times due to less than inch of snow was becoming annoying.

Decided to browse Craigslist for winter tires. I got a couple quotes for my MS3 and many were near $900-1100

Found a guy who had three Pirelli sottozero serie ii for $225. Only been through one season and had 10/32" tread left. Said the 4th tire had an unrepairable puncture.
Negotiated down to 200! He bought 4 new tires assuming because his vehicle was AWD.

Went to firestone and got one blizzak lm-60 RFT for 200 installed (clearanced) +50 for the mount and balance of three other tires.

I was able to drive through all the unplowed roads with ease. A bit late for winter but at least next winter won't be a worry 😀

If they were summer or all-season tires, I woulda said just use the pair and get two of something comparable for the other axle.

But meh, it's a snow tire. I wouldn't worry over a different brand too much...not like you're gonna be pushing the car hard in snow.

You mounted them on the same wheels, though? What do you do in a few months? Forgive me if that seems stupid to ask; I don't live in an area where anyone uses winter tires, and I never considered that people may just pay to swap tires over twice a year. Seems like some cheap 'winter wheels' would pay for themselves pretty quick.

Yeah, you can find some gems on CL.

I have an MS3 as well and was lucky to find some blizzaks on steelies used for one season in near perfect shape for $300

Yeah I'm planning to find a set of MS3 wheels for the summer tires. Just haven't found any on CL in the area.

I would want something close or exactly the same as my current rims
