I need to buy a new coat soon. For people that have Columbia and North Face coats. Which one is better? Warmer? More Comfortable?

I've never had those interchange kinds of coat before (The coats that you can zip a fleece into the coat), are they worth the hype? If they are, what good ones are out there?
What's your opinion on the Columbia Titanium?

I have a Titanium soft shell jacket, its really nice. Waterproof, breathes, comfy, warm and not too bulky.

Does that come with the Titanium coat?

You might wanna try Eddie Baur for the fleece/coat insert.. The Columbia/North Face coats I've seen cost like $275-300.. Last time I was at an Eddie Baur store, I saw a coat/fleece/undergarmet combo for $145. It was very high quality.

The Baur fleece can be changed out for a much lighter undergarmet... so when it's a mild 50 degrees out, you're not sweating your ass off..

But then again, I live in Florida and wear a coat 3 times per year.

I have a Columbia coat, and the thing, while expensive, is very comfortable, durable and warm.

I have both, as well as a Sierra Designs parka. They're all basically ski jackets of the shell type which allow layering underneath. Getting cold isn't really a problem of mine, but blocking the wind up here is key sometimes when it is really cold. They're all good quality, look for whichever fits you the best as they all fit slightly differently.

Thanks for the advice, I'll definitely do that.

what is this coat you speak of? Why not just wear long sleeve shirts, and stay inside on the day it drops below 50. That is pretty much what I do. I have a flannel shirt, and a good leather jacket just in case I need to go out late at night in January.

Northface for the lifetime warranty. I'm on my second jacket now, so the initial investment is worth it.

Edit: Now that I look, Columbia has the lifetime warranty too, but I would still say Northface.

The North Face have dropped considerably in quality over the years. If you want serious consumer-grade stuff, look at Arc'teryx.

Some of the North Face does suck, it depends on the level you buy. Arc'teryx does have some really nice gear though, good point.

Hey, I've read some stuff about gor-tex. Anyone that has a gortex coat, is it worth it? Is it warmer than down or any other stuff they put in coats?

Gore-Tex is great because it breaths really well so when you ski/snowboard etc your sweat can evaporate out of the coat, but its also very water-resistant from the outside in so rain and snow can't penetrate... I've had coats made of it & other "breathable" fabrics & IMO its by far the best one, howeverits overkill to wear back & forth to the office unless you stand in the rain at a bus stop or somthing.
As for your original question... Columbia = more durable North Face = warmer & more comfortable
