On this MLK day I thought I’d start a thread on the biggest news today - Artic conditions all across the country. The fun part is it’s all the way down to the gulf coast.

Will TX lose power again? Will the gulf coast get several inches of snow.

I figure we are screwed. Potentially 4 inches of snow and Jim Cantore is coming to TX.

Forecast from anywhere to half an inch to three inches tonight in San Antonio, though if the rolling blackouts come again it'll probably be early Wednesday morning when we're at 19. Sub 20 seems to be when the blackouts become likely.

I wish we’d get a storm over here, this might be one of the worst snow seasons I’ve ever witnessed.

New Orleans is going to get in on the action. Sounds fun.
Meanwhile, I am sitting here near the Ohio Valley teasing both sides of 0 degrees and the last of our snow pack is being stolen by dry air.

We only got about 2 inches, rained Saturday so didn't stick to pavement much.
But it was cold, I got a call last night for 4 modems off at a marina, which was closed btw at 2am. It was 9 degrees F. Talked them into waiting until morning cause alot of it is through woods. They okayed that.
7am I left and it was 4 degrees F. At least I had light to see good.

We got about 4" and the high was 25deg. I was surprised to see the rest of the snow on the driveway and walkway melted after I shoveled. Guess the sun does provide quite a bit of heat even in Jan.

It's funny, my trees still have leaves even in late January because it has been an extremely hot fall and a pretty warm winter, but now with the polar vortex breaking through to Texas I have snow accumulating on those leaves and dragging the tree branches low. Pretty wild seeing how unstable the polar vortex has become thanks to global warming. I think this is the fourth time since December 2019 that I have seen snow accumulate here. Before that the last time I saw even a quarter inch in SA was 2011. We keep having our hottest years (2024 hottest ever here, 2023 second hottest ever here) yet it's also bringing us snow way more than 10-20-30 years ago.

Carry-over heat from the warmer days. It takes like 48h of subzero temps or a LOT of snow for concrete to cool enough to let snow stick. Very high thermal density.

Well we ended up with 2.5 inches and the kids got to make a snowman. Most snow I’ve seen since moving here.
