78F? That comes up to 25C. I'm pretty much visibly sweating at that temp especially if I do anything remotely physical. I rarely let my house get that hot. I've clocked the ceiling of my server room at around 27C at some times though during a heat wave. Mining rig will tend to do that. It's been dropping below zero at night here. Leaves are changing colour and Canada geese are heading south. Downside is that with global warming and all that our falls are still rather mild and instead of getting the snow we would normally get we just get tons of rain and it can be quite depressing. Can't really do anything outside and even when the rain stops for a short while, everything is too wet.
In winter I let the house drop to like 12 when I'm sleeping, or not home. That's 54 Frankenstein.![]()
Yeah, I also live in one of those climates that refuses to stay at actual 70 degree temps in the spring or fall, just wildly above or below. It's 49º today, Wednesday is forecast to be 87º. Feels weird, man.
I set the thermostat in my residence to 80-81 degrees while I'm at work. I came home yesterday, and it was 78 degrees in my abode, which felt pretty chilly even with my PJs on. Not looking forward to winter.

Even 73F is pretty damn high for a room temp... our house temp is below 70F pretty much the whole time unless it's summertime.
Are you sure you guys aren't living in an old peoples' home? You make me feel like a proper British northerner (where it's typical in winter months to see guys out on the piss wearing t-shirts or something similar), yet they'd probably laugh their asses off at me.
I've got gas central heating too (AC isn't normal to have in the UK though), I know of no reason to have the heating so high, the only minimum I'm aware of is to ensure that water doesn't freeze in the pipes.
So I'm not cold.
I kinda gathered thatNo, it seemed to me that you implied there was a technical reason to keep the house at that temperature (ie. whatever form of heating system you have doesn't work well in certain scenarios) ther than personal preference.
Not meaning anything negative by this, but are you a tad sedentary in lifestyle and/or getting on a bit? My 80-something parents routinely have the temperature that high and I usually end up wearing a t-shirt rather than the usual multiple layers I wear at home. If I had to sleep in such an environment I think I'd be sweating buckets every night.
let us know when it gets real - below 32F.Shit’s getting real next weekend. Lows in the 50s, highs in low 60s. Gotta search for my coat so I’m prepared.
You really should be living in Alaska or the YukonSupposed to be 68 Tuesday. Pisses me off. Shouldn't be that hot this time of year. I still have some windows open in the house. It was 59 this morning inside. When it's consistently <55 inside, I'll close the windows, and when it gets in the 40s, I'll turn the heat on.
