Winter 2011: 720p HD screens galore!?

I used to think 4.3" was ridiculously large, but here I am today with a Thunderbolt and after getting used to it, I think the size is perfect. My old Incredible now feels like a kid's toy compared to my current phone.

A 5" phone might be a nice way to converge the phone & tablet into a single portable device that does everything you need. For those of us who don't wear skinny jeans, it surely beats lugging around a tablet or laptop when we really want more than just a smartphone on the road...

I wish i had bigger hands like NBA pro basketball players to use these, unfortunately i'm your average size 12, using a 4.3" phone is the most i can handle, more would require 2 hands and i don't really like the idea of using a phone with 2 hands.

Looking at my Evo 4G's 4.3" screen, there's no way to cram a 5.3" screen in that space without making the phone significantly larger, unlike in going from the iPhone's screen size to 4.3" in which only a relatively small size increase in dimensions was needed.

~4" is perfect to me, but 5" is just to big. So while those specs sound amazing that's just too big of a device :\

5.3" might not be a bad thing. Cramming 4G basebands and multi-core SOCs has produced some heating problems in some devices and the additional room should allow for more battery as well.

I really can't see them making these screens any smaller than 4.3" though. At 4", the dpi would be impractically high. 4.7" would probably be a sweet spot for size and readability.

Having used extensively not only my Evo (4.3") but the Streak (5") and the Infuse (4.5")... I have to say 4.5" is the largest screen I'd find acceptable.. as long as the phone is thin (which both the Streak and Infuse are).

One thing to remember is that with Ice Cream Sandwich, there is no need for buttons since they can be built into the screen. So, if you take a 4.3 inch screen and get rid of the buttons on the bottom, you could get around a 5 inch screen and not make the phone any bigger. Also, if the bezels get smaller, you an even smaller format and keep a 5 inch screen.
