Winsock Error #10060

Hi,

I'm experiencing a technical letdown with my server at 1and1. While I can connect to the server as a normal viewer in Firefox, when I try and connect with an FTP client, (I've tried WiseFTP, FlashFXP, and FireFTP), the connection times out. I've tried passive connection, disabling global proxy configuration, disabling my firewall and antivirus (ZoneAlarm and AVG Free), but still nothing works. Help is much appreciated, TIA.

Also, my operating system is WinXP Pro, SP2.

Can you get to any FTP sites at all? (try FTP.MICROSOFT.COM just to see if you get a response). If not, then it's likely that your local router is blocking FTP connections on ports 20 and 21.

If you can get to other FTP sites, but cannot get to your 1and1 server, then it's possible that you are either using the wrong IP address for the site, you need to use a non-standard port number for them, they have disabled FTP for your site, or the site simply is not responding to FTP requests due to technical problems on their end. Regardless of the reason, you should talk to 1and1 tech support to get it resolved.
