WINS Problem

We STILL have an NT based network therefore WINS is needed. We have recently added an additional subnet to the network for expansion.

We divided the static IPs to one range and our DHCP users to the other. Ever since this has come into play, our DHCP users cannot browse the network unless they know the IP or DNS name.

From what im reading via google, WINS can talk between subnets..why isnt this working for me?

Have you allowed WINS traffic to be forwarded through your switch or router to the other subnet?

Though cumbersome, especially on a large network, you could always edit the users lmhosts file.

could be a couple of things, there could be an access list on the router that block the wins query, etc etc. But yet WINS can work across network.

yea im assuming its layer 3 oriented..just campus controlls it and wanted to see if there was anything local i should attempt before calling them up.
