The expired trial version works perfectly well so I have no intention of actualyl doing what I discuss here but:

Considering the software was offered free in unlimited quantities on multiple dates, wouldnt you feel somewhat justified in the use if a pirated copy? It's time to get into bad analogies but as long as they were the same version, wouldnt this be essentially no different than somebody going to a store where they were giving away some sort of free software in unlimited quantities and just taking a stack of them, You decide you want the software after the fact and he gives you a copy. Winrar never recieved money but you recieved software on a non-free day.

Granted no pirate would downlaod a bunch of "copies" of this or fetch a bunch of keys--they would just crack it--but as long as I looked at this deal and new it was free, I certainly wouldnt feel bad cracking my trial copy if the trial copy ever stopped doing what I need it to do.

If only 7-zip would fix that horrible RAR bug I wouldn't even have WinRAR installed...dunno why you would even bother with Winzip anymore!

lol maybe WinRAR kinda already figured that many copies installed out there aren't quite paid copies.

I mean honestly, there is a pretty big association between RAR files and piracy, and pirates aren't exactly too likely to buy a Winrar license. Heck even non-pirates would be fairly likely just to keep an expired demo installed forever and ever.

Which is probably why they've been giving them out...it's probably not a huge loss in income, while it's at least improving their image and putting their name more out there.
