"This is a PPP over Ethernet (short: PPPoE) implementation for Windows 98/98SE/ME/2000/XP/2002. PPPoE as a method for establishing PPP connections through Ethernet adapters is described in RFC 2516 and is used by many broadband service providers to
allow authentication and maintain the familiar "dial-up experience" when connecting to the Internet through a broadband modem. Note, however, that not all broadband service providers use PPPoE. If you know you need PPPoE to connect to your service provider and you happen to be using one of the supported operating systems, this implementation could be of interest to you."

So if you use PPPOE, and you have trouble use the above software, it is free.

PPPOE It is a pain in the neck and sooner or later, it causes trouble.
The best thing to do is to buy Cable/DSL Router that support PPPOE (Linksys, SMC, Netgear, and others).
You type the ID and PW to the Router, and the Router (hardware) keeps the connection alive "forever", independent from the computer.
You uninstall all the PPPOE software, and you get faster clean Ethernet connection.
For bonus you get Hardware Firewall, you can share the connection with more computers, some Routers (SMC) even have printer server inside.
The only drawback Router cost about $50-60.
Important: Cable/DSL Home Router does not work, if your Cable/DSL Modem is USB, or PCI. You must use Ethernet Cable/DSL Modem.
