Been getting a bad_pool_header bsod lately...

I did memtest86 and my memory is ok...

I uninstalled avast cause I heard that may have some issues...

Updated my video card drivers...

I thought I would just reinstall W7...

At first I tried the upgrade method (to preserve files)...

Then tried the custom method (I made copies of the important stuff)...

When it reboots after first portion of the install I get the:

winpeshl.exe application error 0xc000142

Any suggestions...

I am STUMPED!

Well, it's a hardware (or media) issue, since you are getting errors during install. Does this happen at default clocks?

I recall dealing with the exact same issue on a Vista64 machine reinstall a couple of years ago. In the end, I only managed to get it to work after I reformatted the hard drive.

Believe it or not, AVAST, was causing the problem...?

I read a view things online about others with this issue and AVAST...

I uninstalled, started using AVIRA, no more BSOD!

I use Microsoft Security Essentials and haven't had one problem with viruses. MS finally got virus software right with this one.

Me too, for the most part. But I tried to clean an infected computer someone brought to work and it could detect "dos/alureon.e" but was never able to clean it out.

However, other software didn't do better, many programs just didn't detect it or if they did they couldn't remove it either. Just some nasty new variation of a rootkit.
