winnt 4.0 = no usb right?

Well, they could have added support through a Service Pack.
 
Uh...well, afaik, U.S.B. support requires modifications to the kernel of the OS (in Linux, we didn't have U.S.B. until they added it to the kernel), and MS probaby won't do such a large modification in a service pack; besides that, there needs to be some reason for you to have to upgrade to Windows 2000 (aka NT 5) 🙂
