I spent a lot of time trying to get the crop right, and I like the final proportions (actually ended up going back to my very first crop, after trying out many more!). Comments?

Colour is marginally tweaked, there was less red in the original (a more blue/yellow sunset), which I can post if anyone is interested.
 
HDR, or at least stretch out the tone curve. I'm of the opinion that a photo should at least have the maximum dynamic range before clipping. The composition and colors are amazing; just make the colors brighter. 😉
 
I'm old school - I don't like PS tweaking much at all. I hate the current fad of blurring moving water. My eyes don't see that.

I think the shot was excellent - I always hope to see such a sunset. I guess I'll have to go to Australia. 🙂
 
Awesome shot of an incredible sunset. I can't believe the red/yellows in the sky!

Whats in the fore ground? It almost looks like cutouts how sharp they are.

I was thinking the same thing. In this version, the buoy or whatever is floating in the water is cut out. It also puts more emphasis on that fantastic sky.
 
I like it better with the buoy cropped out as well. Excellent shot! The only thing that I don't like, and it's really really minor, is the guy with his arm stretched out pointing to the left. (Not that you had any control over that!)

There's an annual beach art display there every year, the thing on the end was called 'Peas on earth' and was composed of huge green pea pods.

The silhouettes are just people admiring the art/fishing/watching the sunset.

The buoy is actually someone's head I think.

Thanks for the comments folks, I went with more foreground initially to try & get the proportions more 'classically correct', although I did experiment with many 'shallower' crops like the one posted by Aharami.

The sky is indeed the key to this shot 🙂

I saw the same thing and almost want to shift the center to the right with a little closer cut because of it. sigh.

Nice shot.

That's why I think that if you've got the perfect shot, and there's the human element in the shot, shoot and shoot and shoot.
