WinMX says its unable to recieve incoming TCP connection. Im behind XP built-in firewall, how can I configure it to where this works and leave on the firewall? It says I can specify a TCP port to use, how do I do this? WinMX claims that it will retunr more search results and faster download times if I can get it to work.

you should have the option in winmx to type in what port you want to use, then ok it in your firewall. If that don't work try winmx world chat room and chat with UKZERO, he can help you solve your problem. forget the help rooms, they aren't much help

The only way I fixed it was to turn off my firewall and then install Winmx...once installed I turned the firewall back on and everything works fine...I still seem to get low returns tho, but I guess theres no way to tell if the firewall is the reason for the low returns or my searches are unpopular.

Right click on your network connection and choose properties, navigate to where the firewall is and you should be able to define the application/port to have open.

I ran into the same problem with Winmx. To get it to work I just found my way into my firewall program that allowed me to say what ports could allow free access. I forgot what winmx's is. But that's about it. Just find the right port and you don;'t need to close down the whole firewall. Closing down the firewall to use winmx is not such a great idea. I found the only way to get the files I wanted was to line up and wait. That left me connected to the internet for a very long time.

So the firewall actually affects your downloads as well? How is that possible?

What port does WinMX use?

About lack of results, you may do this, but be sure to download a .WSX file when you start WinMX, or use NapMX, to find Opennap servers too, not just the default ones WinMX connects to.
See here.

I dont shut it down to use it...I just shut the firewall down to install it...after that I always leave the firewall on.....seemed to work
