Have WinMe installed on C:\ partion, then put Win 2000 Pro on D:\ partion, for dual booting. Want to keep Win2000 and delete WinMe. How do you do this, and just boot into
Win2000 only? Tried to clean install Win2000 for boot up disk, but says it needs to install from Windows. Is there a way to trick it to do a clean install from DOS? If not,
then I would like to delete WinMe, but how then would you change or move Win2000 to the C:\ partion? Thanks for any help.

if you want to do a clean install of 2k, you don't need to do it from windows. the easiest way (imo) is to boot from the 2k install cd and follow the instructions.

You don't need to reinstall everything. If you want to just to Windows 2000 only you can set it to boot straight into win 2k. Right click on My Computer and select properties. Select Advanced tab, then Startup and recovery options. You then make double sure that Windows 2000 is the default OS, then you uncheck the box that says "display a list of OS' for "so many" seconds. When you reboot it will pop straight into 2000. If you ever want to go back to 98 you can just undo this later and you are on your way back into 98. You can always just delete the windows partition on that drive also.

For bootdisks (from the help file):

To create setup disks

Insert a blank, formatted, 3.5-inch, 1.44-MB disk into the floppy disk drive.
Insert the Windows 2000 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
Click Start, and then click Run.
In the Open box, type d:\bootdisk\makeboot a: (where d: is the drive letter assigned to your CD-ROM drive), and then click OK.
Follow the screen prompts.

Important

You will need four blank, formatted, 3.5-inch, 1.44-MB floppy disks. Label them Setup Disk One, Setup Disk Two, Setup Disk Three, and Setup Disk Four.

Don't want to see any thing with WinMe on hard drive, but aren't the NT boot files in WinMe partion since W2 was installed from there? Also don't have actual store bought version of W2, have copy downloaded and burnt to cd. Had to copy files to hard drive and install that way. So can't boot from cd.

Well, if you don't want ME there at all you can delete your C:\Windows directory. Thats where all of your Windows ME files are kept. Yes, your boot information is on C:\. If you want to format that partition then you will have to reinstall, unless somebody else out there knows if you can get creative with your boot.ini file, and other boot files. I would think that the easiest way would be to reinstall.
