I picked up a new HD and installed WinME on it. Everything is working fairly well except I can't enable DMA on my Plextor 8432 (when I reboot, it stays unchecked). This is causing me problems because I require DMA enabled (can't evern burn @ 4x).

C566 @ 850Mhz
128 MEG PC-100 RAM
A-Bit BM6 MB (latest BIOS)
Promise UDMA66 IDE Controller
Maxtor 15.3GIG 7200RPM UDMA66 HD (Connected to Promise)
Fujitsu 8.4GIG UDMA66 HD (Connected to Promise)
Plextor 8432 CD-RW (Connected as Secondary Master IDE on MB)(Latest Firmware 1.07)
NEC 8x DVD-ROM (Connected as Primary Master IDE on MB)
SB Live! Value
Xentor 32 TNT2 Ultra

I've tried swapping the IDE Channels on the DVD-ROM and CDRW, but no change.

Try waiting until that OS is released and companies make the correct drivers for that OS.

I don't have exactly the same problem, but a similar one. After installing the firmware 1.07 on the drive I can't get DMA in Win2000 anymore. Since the update process was run under Win2000 I guess it could somehow have been disabled by the update utility. I also have WinMe installed and the problem is not there. I haven't tried going back to firmware 1.05 yet, but I'd rather suspect the utility before the firmware. Perhaps this info can be of some aid.

Hey surf.to/mkk,

Can u still burn CDs w/o DMA enabled? I tried using the Plextor MVP 2000 software and it decoded the MP3s @ 16x and burned @ 8x but I get a write error. I did a fresh install of WinME on a newly formatted HD, so I don't know wut the problem is. I emailed Plextor but they said WinME was a beta OS, so they couldn't help me. This is so frustrating, I think I have to install Win98 again.
