WinME: How to get Explorer to open in My Computer & not My Documents

Heretik

Senior member
I can't for the life of me figure out how to get windows explorer to open up in My Computer instead of always starting in My Documents in Windows ME. No big deal, just those extra couple of clicks are kind of annoying....

Here ya go:

C:\WINDOWS\EXPLORER.EXE /n,/e,
Will have it start in My Computer.

If you want it to start on a particular drive:
C:\WINDOWS\EXPLORER.EXE /n,/e,C:\ or D:\ E:\ etc.

Hated the My Documents version.

Pardon my ignorance , but where do you place that line. In the "run" window or the win.ini file or config.ini or where? Could you be a bit more explicit, please. I know I look like a newbie here, sorry.

chillie,

wherever you have the shortcut to Windows Explorer, right-click on it and pick properties.

A box should pop up titled Windows Explorer Properties

There are two Tabs at the top, General and Shortcut, it should open on shortcut.
What you want to do is modify the target line with the above options.

Damn, Duke....

I had been wondering about the same problem for a while now...However, I never posted asking about it because I thought for sure NO ONE would know the answer....ooopss...

Thanks, dude..

The way I get explorer to open in My comp is to right click on my comp and click explore.

Also, I have my logitech mouseman+'s middle wheel button set up to open explorer. And by default, when I click that button, explorer opens in my comp.
