My dad has a problem with his new WinME computer. Seems somehow when he got it, he created two profiles (one for mom, one for dad). So when they turn it on, they have to highlight either mom or dad and then input the password. They hate it and would rather it just login without choosing a profile or entering a password.

Anyone know how to undo that? He's bringing his computer over today and I would rather have good info on the subject before I try to blindly undo it.

Thanks!

First, open the Passwords Control Panel, Go to User Profiles, and select, " All users of this computer share the same profile." Then go into the Networking Control Panel, and remove the "Client for Microsoft Networks." Finally, do a search, and look for any files in the Windows folder that have a .pwl file extension, and delete them. They may be hidden, and if that is the case, go to Windows Explorer and select View/Folder Options/View from the toolbar. Scroll down, and check the box that allows all hidden and system files to be visible. Then ... delete the .pwl files, and reboot.

Afterwards, if necessary, reinstall the Client for Microsoft Networks. Reboot again. But if the system asks for a password in the Log-on screen ... do not type anything. It's okay to put a user name, but nothing else. Leave the password box blank.

The computer should not ask you for a password again, and the computer will now be correctly set up for one user.

Toejam,

If I had been left to stumble around that, I would never have gotten it as completely as you listed.

I do thank you!
