HI ,
I have a weird problem here with winme. I have p3 1 ghz and 512mb ram, but still winme telling me i am getting low resources !!! What happen to my system ?

Hmmm, What happened? You installed WinME :disgust: WinME is a real nasty resource eater. You can gain some back by disabling system restore, but even then it'll eat up your first 128MB just by booting up. It also has a problem with freeing up RAM after you close programs. If you switched to ME after having 98 or 98SE, you may find yourself going back to 98. And likeing it.

ic ..how about win2k ? should be no problem right ?

I already disable the system restore option ...but still end up negetive resources. My friend have the same OS as me but he dont have this kind of problem. I have tvmaster tvcard and he also have the same card no problem running it for whole say but i have to restart the system everytimes after movies .

no he doenst ...he only have 256 ram .....

well i open the startup menu ...and disable the voodootools seems working fine right now ..but still watching the performance !

RAM and resources are not related. Resources is a fixed area of memory and will not change no matter how much memory you have. You need to find out what's not freeing up your resources and hope there's a fix for that software. If not you'll have to reboot when resources are low.

i had win98 in the beginning but the f**ker ate all my memory (i have 128MB) now i'm on win ME it isn't so greedy and i got about 5 to 60 MB free

if you don't want windows to write these ugly swap files then you should do exactly as told below

***
Go to start> RUN and type in system.ini
under [386enh] type:
ConservativeSwapfileUsage=1

then click File> Save.
this causes your pc to use all the ram before using the harddrive for virtual memory
***

it should make windows using all RAM before making a swap file
worked for 98

ok so wat you guys mean is changing the vcache is not usefull ?

libekala : thanks i will try that out ! hopefully will work !

seems like after shutdown the icq while watching movies will improve alots.
My system no more slow down after watching movies from video cassette. Not enough memory ?
