WinMe dial up internet connection stalling

I recently upgraded to Windows millennium edition (clean install) and I have been having trouble with my Internet connection 'stalling'. The connection will stop responding and then after a while it will start responding again, but sometimes I have to reboot the system to clear the stall. Internet Explorer is the programme that is most vulnerable to this.

I have heard of other people having this problem, but as of yet I have found no solution. Has anyone else had this problem? Were you able to solve the it?

I'm using a Supra external modem on Com port 1.

Thanks in advance,
Maalox Moment.

There is a newer version of IE 5.5 that works better than the one that came on the Win ME CD.
The Win ME version is 5.50.4134.0100. Go to the link below and download the new one which is 5.50.4134.0600. This may clear up your problem.

Thanks for the ideas. I read on the microsoft boards that manually seeting the IP address on your ethernet card can solve this problem. It seems to have with me (so far). WinMe seems to have all sorts of networking bugs.
