WinME better than Win98 for internet gaming?

I've recently been switching back and forth between these two O/Ss because I was having bad lag playing Madden 2002.

When ME first came out, I recall reading somewhere that ME has the Win2K TCP/IP stack (not sure what that is), and therefore it's internet connectivity is better than Win98SE.

I still thing Win98SE is better O/S for offline gaming but I've been having better download times and less online gaming lag when I run under WinME. But I don't like WinME cause it does not manage resources well. With the exact same programs loading and startup and in the background, using FreeMem, it shows under Win98SE that I have about 422mb free. Under WinME, that number drops to about 377mb. And it seem after running apps, WinME doesn't reclaim the resources as well as WinME.

I've got all the system restore and system health features of WinME disabled when I use it. But the fact remains that for me, online gaming is smoother under WinME. Does anyone else agree with this?

I agree in that the mouse movement in Me is much better, and XP is even better than that. That alone made internet gaming bette rbecause of no mouse lag.

That is an interesting point you make about the mouse movements. I used to play a lot of PGA2000 and the game uses a "mouseswing" to hit the ball. In Win98SE, I can shoot on average, 3-4 strokes lower per round than I can in WinME. No matter how much I fiddle with the mouse settings in WinME, I just cannot get the same results. The mouse in WinME acts differently (probably more sensitive) than the mouse movement in Win98.

WinME is a piece of crap when it comes to managing resources, if i were you i would stick with Win98 or upgrade to 2k or XP

The poor management of resources is secondary when it comes to online gaming, were lag-free connections are the primary concern...I can alway reboot after the game (as annoying as it may be) to reclaim maximum resources.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has experienced less lag when gaming online w/ ME v.s. 98SE.
