I've recently been switching back and forth between these two O/Ss because I was having bad lag playing Madden 2002.
When ME first came out, I recall reading somewhere that ME has the Win2K TCP/IP stack (not sure what that is), and therefore it's internet connectivity is better than Win98SE.
I still thing Win98SE is better O/S for offline gaming but I've been having better download times and less online gaming lag when I run under WinME. But I don't like WinME cause it does not manage resources well. With the exact same programs loading and startup and in the background, using FreeMem, it shows under Win98SE that I have about 422mb free. Under WinME, that number drops to about 377mb. And it seem after running apps, WinME doesn't reclaim the resources as well as WinME.
I've got all the system restore and system health features of WinME disabled when I use it. But the fact remains that for me, online gaming is smoother under WinME. Does anyone else agree with this?
