WinME / ASUS CUSL2 Won't shut down

Hi just installed WinME on the new CUSL2 motherboard and the system will not shut down automatically anymore. It worked fine with Win98SE? This is with a clean install. I see the same items in Device Manager under System Properties ie: ACPI Button and Advanced Configuration and Power Interface ACPI (Bios)as I did in Win98SE. Anyhelp would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone.

Do you have a soundblaster live or a usb mouse? I had shutdown probs with the soundblaster live and liveware version 3. If you have a soundblaster live it could be the drivers if your running the liveware version 3. I had to install the original drivers to get it to work on mine. Couldnt find the update. Also heard there were some issues with the usb intellimouse. You might check out www.cusl2.com. Also check out Asus message board for help.

I am using a Creative PCI512 audio card. Not sure if that falls into the Live catagory? I am using a using a USB intelli-mouse but it is connected to the PS2 port. Still searching for some answers?

hmm i got an asus p3b-f and i got same probs, i dunno i got both sblive and intellimouse so i'm thinking its a prob with the liveware drivers cuz i dunno why a microsoft mouse would fail to work on a microsoft OS.

also is this the bug where u get a bluie screen right before shut down? oh and my friend reports to have the same prob with a abit mobo so it's definatly a sblive prob or the mouse (leaning toward sblive).

Hmmm no my screen is black, not the BSOD. I've gathered a few idea's from here and http://www.cusl2.com and will try them again on Sept 14. That's when my legit version of ME arrives. I've been using version 4.90.3000(warez) up until now. I've got the latest Intellimouse drivers and will relocate the sound card to PCI slot 1 and disable Legacy USB support. Ofcourse I will start with the relocating of the sound card first. Will keep you posted. Thanks.

Hey thanks gang, all points are duly noted and I will begin with relocating the sound card to PCI slot 1. I will report back once I've got this puppy hummin. Thanks gang!

Good morning everyone. WinME is alive and shutting down fine now. After a clean install I relocated the Creative Sound Blaster PCI 512 to slot 1 and tried shutting down. Still not working so then I went into the BIOS and indeed disabled Legacy USB Support and voila "Shutdown and Restart" just fine. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you other "tweakers" for all your help. This just goes to prove how invaluable the "Good Forums" really can be. Now if I could just figure out what sort of Anti-Virus program will work with ME I'd be real happy. Apparently Norton has me by the short and curlies....with my current Licenced version of Anti-Virus 2000 version 6. Buggers are releasing anti-virus 2001 that is apparently compatible but at a cost of 30.00 just after I paid that fee for my current version. ACK!

well i figured out my BSOD proglem, it's the detonator 3 drivers, so i'm using det 2 for now and they work just fine.

Hey Normy and all the rest of ya's. I thought I had my shutdown issues resolved but that was short lived! After numerous help from you guy's and trying some other things I've returned my CUSL2 for credit and installed my QDI Legend Advance 10E. All issues are resolved and things are working really good. I am convinced it had something to do with ACPI as the QDI has the option to turn it off and use APM instead in the bios. Perhaps someday I will return to the CUSL2 however for now it's the QDI for me. It did recieve editors choice recently on Tom's Hardware http://www.tomshardware.com/mainboard/00q2/000614/ap133a-12.html so I do have faith in this new board. Thanks everyone.
