WinME and kernal32.dll: Can anybody help here?

Nitemare

Lifer
I installed WinME on a fresh partition and shortly thereafter whenever I shutdown Internet Explorer(half the time) I get a message stating that iexplore.exe has caused a pagefault in kernal32.dll and the program will be shutdown.

Low and behold it is not running with this message up. I can click on ok to close, x, or cancel all day and it pops right back up. I cannot even shutdown the machine properly, because the error message will not go away. I am running on 128 MB of memory, so don't think that is the prob, besides it worked fine under 95 and NT. MS says to put the latest patch on and I have, it still crashes. Disabled Active Desktop, still crashes, new video driver, still crashes, reinstalled IE 5.5, still crashes.

Can any of you guys suggest something?

I know my machine is crap, a pentium pro 200, w/ a 2 MB video card, but I don't have all the pieces to put together a new computer. Waiting on a 760MP chipset to be released.

Thanks😎

Is ME the only os you're running? Are you trying to run it as part of a multi-os boot setup?

You might want to try the IE Repair Tool...just go to Control Panel, then Add/Remove Programs, then click to "Remove" Internet Explorer 5.5. Not to worry, it's not going anywhere...it will bring up a box asking if you want to repair it. Give it a go and see what happens.

I was running it dual boot with NT, but took NT off because I needed the disk space. I had 95 on it and had the c drive compressed. Got photoshop 6 and went to install it, but It wouldn't work on 95, so I had to get 98 or ME. Upgrade sisn't work because c was compressed. Went to decompress c,(after I made backup copies of most of my stuff). It seemed to work, said it would have to reboot to complete. Rebooted to a cannot find ntloader error message or something to that effect. I put in a boot disk and moved all my files from one partion, formatted it, then ran the setup for ME. First time through got an error message bout some dll's not being created. It still finished, but I had no task bar, just a start button that you couldn't click on. (Weird, huh?). Also, whenever I installed ME before the little movie shows up, it never happened on my own system. I formatted the partition and ran setup again, this time, no error messages and it seemed to work fine, still no mini-movie though. Bout a week later whenever I shut down IE, I would start getting the error messages that wouldn't go away.

ME does boot a lot faster, cept when it has to run scandisk because the kernal32.dll file or iexplore.exe file is crap.
