WinME and Counterstrike

I just installed WinME and I'm trying to play Counterstrike with it. I am able to get into the game and play just fine. But somehow, I am not able to exit the game. Everytime I press Esc, it will get out of the game and the game will freeze in the console menu. I can still get back to WinME. Any ideas for not letting it freeze ? I heard WinME is pretty buggy still.
 
I've got a simialr problem with HL in general, and Win2k. In fact, it's the only thing keeping me from doing a full blown install of Win2k on my machine. I can play, but when I hit ESC to go back to the menu, I'll get a blank screen. I can alt tab out of HL, or close it with CTRl AlT Delete, and everything runs fine....kinda wierd. I tried new drivers for my card, different versions of HL, all to no avail. I think the only thing we can do is just wait for ME to become more mainstream, and hope that someone comes up with a workaround.
