WinME and accessing hard drive...

been running ME for around two weeks now and i don't have too many complaints about it... one question though...

it seems that when i leave my computer for a little while, occasionally, WinME will start accessing the hard drive and the hd light will stay on for like 3 minutes or so and i can hear hard drive activity... what's it doing?? i don't have any tasks like defrag or scandisk scheduled... and i don't think it's clearing the swap file or anything cuz it wouldn't take that long to do that would it? any ideas what's going on??

If you have Microsoft Office installed as well, it's most likely the Find Fast program that comes with it. It's one of the most annoying things about Office. What it does is that it helps you find your documents more easily by re-indexing them every once in a while (which I never use anyway since I know where I keep everything). You can disable it by going to Control Panel -> Find Fast.

Oh, and if you don't have Find Fast in your control panel, install it from the Office CD. It's in the Office Tools section.

but if i don't have findfast installed at all (which i don't), then doesn't that mean it's not findfast? or does office automatically use it even when it's not installed?
any other ideas as to what else it might be?

on a related note, when i play diablo2, it accesses the hard drive like crazy... i defrag my hd once a week...

Apparently, MS Office 2000 installs it even if you don't install it's control panel. So the only way to remove it is to install it's control panel and disable it from the control panel.

hrmm.. i have that diablo 2 problem too.. i think everyone does.. i have died a few times because of the hd lag.. it sux! maybe u need more ram?

oh yeah...
i never thought about the pc health/system restore thing... that's most likely what it is... it doesn't really bother me... i was just kinda wondering what it was... but the diablo ii thing pisses me off... just posted a message bout it in the software forum... maybe we'll get some answers?
