Wink2k freezes when hdd on promise controller. A7V133

When i put my hdd on the promise controller of my A7V133, and i try to transfer files over newtork to it, win2k freezes. When i put the hdd onto the regular via controller, everything is fine. any ideas why this might be happening?
i've got the latest via 4in1s installed.

is your hard drive a maxtor? if so, try installing sp2, or better yet go to maxtors site and look at
the alternative pin settings, that fixed my problem

which alternate pin settings do u mean? the only jumpers on the drive are for master/slave/cable select etc.
