Wingate & Scour Exchange?

I cannot configure Scour Exchange to work with Wingate client. Scour connects to its server but every download fails. I remember reading something about Scour assigning adifferent port for every download, so is there any possibility to make it work (ie. configure Wingate properly)?

Dunno if it's related but I had problems with Scour tonight. I had to try 4 times to download a song and at least 1/2 of my uploads errored off. I'm on a Linksys router so I'm not sure if this helps.

Below is the basic procedure for getting Scour and mIRC to run under Winproxy. If you can adapt this to Wingate, you're in business.
Yep, it does. (except for mIRC 5.4 which had a bug in its socks implementation; that was fixed in 5.41). Almost always a problem
with getting mIRC working - or any socks application - is actually a problem somewhere in DNS. Socks requires DNS; and DNS
has to be configured on each of your computers that use socks.
DNS is a protocol that resolves human-readable names to machine-usable tcp/ip addresses; you can almost think of it as a parallel
protocol to tcp/ip. Here's how you would set up DNS on the WinProxy computer and on one client machine:


You'll need to enable socks and DNS in WinProxy, socks in Mirc , and DNS on the client computer that has Mirc .
In WinProxy, WinProxy - File - Advanced Properties - Protocols, enable socks and enable DNS; In the DNS setup box put the IP
address(es) of your service provider (the search order, not mail and news servers). You may have to call your service provider to
these; most provide them on the initial signup paperwork. Also put in the name of your local domain; make up one if you don't
have it, like 'fred.com'. Because of the way DNS searches are made, it's best to have a '.com' or '.org' or one of the common endings
there. In version 2.0 and earlier versions of WinProxy you will have to stop and restart WinProxy in order for the settings to take
effect; in version 2.1 the change will take effect immediately. Once enabled there, go into Control Panel - Networks - hilite the TCP
-> network card line and click on 'properties' then click on the DNS tab. Enable DNS there, give it the same domain name, and for
'host' put in the computer name of the computer you are on. (If you don't know it, you can find it under Control Panel - Network -
Identification - Computername). For the DNS search order put first the same ISP DNS number(s) you used in the WinProxy
setting, then put in the IP address of the WinProxy machine itself. You will have to reboot the computer for the new DNS settings
to take effect.
On the client machine, as above, go to Control Panel - Network - Identification; take note of the name in the 'Computer name' box;
this is the NetBios name and you'll need it in a moment. In Control - Network - Configuration, find the protocol line that says
TCP/IP LAN adapter and double-click on it (install it if it isn't there); you should already have an IP address specified for this
machine. Go to DNS configuration, check 'Enable DNS', in 'Host' put the NetBios name you just got, in domain put the same
domain name you used on the WinProxy computer, and in the DNS server search order put the IP address of the WinProxy
machine. You'll probably have to restart here, as well.
In Mirc , go to File - Setup - Firewalls, and enable 'use Socks firewall'. In the 'Host' box put the IP address of the WinProxy
machine; for the port use the default 1080.

You should now be able to connect.

I already managed to configure Wingate server to let Mirc through. One needs to create a mapping port service for every IRC server and for every port to be used.

Also, I don't think DNS is the problem for Scour not working. Scour can connect to its server and do a search (if DNS were the problem, probably it wouldn't). But the downloads always fail.

I had the same problem as you and after performing the above procedure it worked fine. I know your problem, when trying to download, first it says downloading, then reconnecting then error. Connecting is nothing, the downloading problem is also solved above.
