Wing Commander 2

This game was probably one of my fondest childhood memories. I would always run memmaker to free up more of that 640k. 😉 Don't forget the speechpack!
Die you stinkin' Kilrathi!!!

I hope one day they remake the original Origin games - I would pay good money for that. Many days of my childhood were spent playing Origin games like Wing Commander 2 and Strike Commander. 🙂

WC2 was the first game that convinced me that the games to come would need faster systems. The 3.5 hour install time to downconvert to EGA mode on a 286/12 sucked... ass... hard. 😛

man, modern games suck recockulus.
the plot in WC2 was just unbeatable. nowadays, you just run around some sh|tty map with an imaginary weapon and click on enemys. :| what sh\t!!!!!!

I think I liked the original Wing Commander more, but WC2 was pretty tight as well.

Still two of my favorite games of all time. Besides the cinematics, I don't think WC3 or WC4 were as good.

WC2 was the first game I played on a pc. I had a 386sx with 4 megs of memory. I loved that game. I felt so bad when I tried to install it a few years later and all the floppies were corrupted. 🙁

They still do... it's just that we've grown up and are finding harder and harder to experience the 'first' of anything. I definitely remember playing WC1 and WC2... i remember how big of an upgrade it was going from a 386 with 4mb of ram, to a 486DX2 with 8mb of ram, and how much better the game flew. And yes, WC1 and WC2 are no doubt my favorite game from the 286-486 era.

But you can still get those 'unforgettable' experiences... 4 years ago when i first played EQ, it was simply amazing. I remember reading about it in all the mags when it was in beta, then on final release, i went out the next day and bought it... it was only the 2nd day EQ was up, and the server crashed often, but it was awesome. I remember being lost in the city Felwithe for a couple of hours, just amazed out the graphics and the people i was random people i was running into... then i finally found the exit, and left the city. I walked into a forest, to see literally hundreds of other players running around killing bats and rats... man, what an experience. The world would be up for 30 mins, then it would crash, and you would wait with hundreds of other people in the chat rooms for the worlds to come back up... and back then, nobody whined, even if we waited for 2 hours just to go back on for 15 mins before it crashed again.

Really, WC isn't that great of a game if you compare it to today's standards. Graphics are of course completely outdated. Gameplay was simple and extremely linear. Story wasn't exactly epic. But it was great for us because it was the first of it's kind. Today, kids are having the same great experience we use to have, but it's with their modern games. If you want that great experience, find something that can be a 'first', and you'll experience that magical feeling again.
