Windwaker HD=8/10

Just finished Windwaker for the first time yesterday. Thought it was a great game with a few annoying areas. First the sailing part takes way too long. Changing the wind direction all the time at the beginning is very annoying. Thank god they have the fast sail now.

Most of the temples are excellent. The only one I got frustrated with was the air temple. The leaf mechanic is just not perfect like most of the other items that link has.

The Wii U HD made the art beautiful. Also the difference in islands were also a pleasant surprise. I thought they would be repetitive.

I completed all the side quests besides the pieces of heart that are in treasure chests at the bottom of the ocean.

Do you guys agree with my assessment? I would def recommend the game to other people. It made my top 5 zeldas. It was refreshing not to deal with motion controls. I think Skyward sword could have been great if it had WindWaker controls.

Wind Waker just isn't one of the better Zelda games no matter how high resolution the textures are, so yeah 8/10 is about right.

Its a good game, just really annoying and not as good as LttP, OoT, LBW, etc.

Interesting... I've been avoiding the Wii U because I tried WW on an emulator and was not impressed. I also didn't like Spirit Tracks. I don't think I'm a fan of having to travel by water and the whole island setting. It's so... NOT Zelda like.

And you know, thinking on it further, this may be why I didn't like Skyward Sword as much. Just give me Epona if anything!

I loved Windwaker. WWHD is insanely polished, it looks so good compared to what else is out there; native 1080p games are hard to come by on consoles.

Sailing around an ocean feels a heck of a lot more fun and interesting than riding around on a horse in a green field like in the other games.

I bought a gamecube for windwaker in my college days and hated it and never made it through the first temple. I got so frustrated with the sailing component. You should not have to fight to travel in the open world. The fast sail that you get from the auction truly changes the mechanic and game. The bird from Skyward Sword did not bother me nearly as much as WindWaker non hd.

Yeah I was "OK" with Skyward Sword, but overall I thought it was a letdown. I had really high hopes though after playing Twilight Princess which I thought was really good.

Maybe I'll give it a shot... I don't know. I'm hoping for a SM3DW bundle since they bundle everything now at some point.

And what if they release a bundle with a new Zelda for Wii U? Then I will end up buying it again! Decisions...

You're pretty much just bashing classic Zelda. Did you even play them?

I never finished Skyward Sword. I got it to about 80-90% done. I have to revisit it to finish. Twilight Princess is far superior to that game. Skyward Sword had so much promise as it was supposed to be the pinnacle story for a Zelda game.

They should have made ALTTP 2 as a Wii U HD game. I miss a top down Zelda on consoles.

I'm comparing to the other 3D Zeldas. WW isn't even my favorite 3D Zelda even but I absolutely loved the sailing. Having to deal with storms, enemies, the unknown, that kind of stuff is really cool. I found almost nothing interesting about riding around on Epona in OoT or TP.

Epona wasn't in the non-3D games that I'm aware of. Pretty sure Epona arrived in OoT, but has shown up in a few since then.

But before that, Link didn't have to travel waters like WW. Epona appeared to cover that transition when 3D came about so you could travel faster by land. So really, it has nothing to do with Epona and more with the fact that travelling heavily by water (other than swimming) was never a Zelda thing.

It's just an element I don't appreciate. It didn't exist in Link Between Worlds and I didn't miss it one bit.

Yes, having a huge tract of land to explore is a staple of the Zelda series.

Replacing it with water just doesn't feel the same and isn't as exciting. I stil like WW, but it stands alone as very 'non Zelda' due to the lack of land and lack of dungeons.

The best thing about WW is the characters. It has the best characters of any Zelda IMO. Besdies maybe Majora's Mask...

Zelda keeps trying to introduce new things and sometimes they flop (IMO). A link between worlds was fantastic stuff.
